"Be able to speak my mind"
Sue was profoundly self conscious, unable to summon the courage to express her opinions in company. Her inability was in turn responsible for her social isolation and virtual
invisibility at work.
Constant parental criticism within an authoritarian family, plus growing up as the brunt of ridicule by her two much older adopted siblings, had resulted in Sue becoming acutely withdrawn.
As an adult, she desperately wanted to overcome the intolerable work issues she faced daily with her management, gain the confidence to express herself, become less isolated and speak her mind freely.
Aviel's Solution
One-on-one with her Aviel coach, Sue had no difficulty expressing her frustrations, nor explaining how being so timid affected her relationships with management at work and her parents at home.
Sue's Coaching program focussed on finding and developing her repressed self esteem, and developing her own acknowledgement of her purpose and value.
The tailored Aviel coaching process simultaneously enabled her to appreciate the conclusions her colleagues had formed, and recognise the basis of the exasperation from her management's perspective. One task within the coaching series was to have Sue write an autobiographical account of her workplace relationships from her superior's perspective.
Client's Result
Placing Sue in her manager's situation gave her a clear understanding of his position and subsequently allowed her to communicate in the work place.
Through exploring the perceptions of others, Sue gained an insight into her own qualities and came to understand how her situation was self-perpetuating.
This keen perception of other people's point of view augmented the liberating techniques developed with her Coach and has given Sue renewed confidence to the point where she has now enjoys public speaking, and regularly expresses her new found poise at 'Toastmasters'.
Business Partner Underperforming
One of three senior partners in an accounting practice, David was acknowledged around the office as a 'nice guy', a persona that whilst generally desirable, actually rendered him impotent when it came to demanding performance from subordinate staff.
His accommodating attitude and willingness to assist employees diverted his attention from generating substantial billings for the practice, whist he spent hours each week performing menial computer support tasks to keep the firm's administration afloat.
At home, his personality also hindered his authority and his family life was suffering due to his wife's overly generous devotion to other people's quality of life via her voluntary activities. This also was having an effect at work.
Aviel's Solution
A new structured approach to both his business and domestic life was devised and implemented, putting in place procedures and mechanisms that allowed David to manage his time and prioritise his activities. With a screen saver asking "whose job are you doing now?", a structured daily plan (with door closed,) and regular meetings to review new staff reporting to him, David reclaimed authority and his position in the practice.
Structured planning mechanisms were engaged in the home to re-established balance in David and Julia's social and domestic life.
Client's Result
With his newfound control of his diary, rather than being at the mercy of his workforce, David is again a contributing partner in his accounting practice.
On the home front, Aviel's coaching series enabled him to organise quality time with his boys, taking on activities that created new bonds. Forward planning of Julia's undertakings allowed social and domestic equilibrium to be planned into her busy life. Setting up a year planner to schedule Julia's activities allowed David to be planned into her family's calendar and the reclamation of significant family time.
Staff Performance
Struggling with an acrimonious business partnership, Allen's attempts to negotiate a buyout was exacerbated by his hostile partner's concealment of the enterprise's current financial standing, and attempts to shanghai his client base.
Simultaneously, Barry, Allen's inappropriately qualified sales manager's poor performance and negative attitude was exerting a harmful influence throughout the office, as all involved waited to see if Barry would 'jump before being pushed'.
The cumulative effect of these circumstances disabled Allen from effectively steering his IT Company through a difficult transition, contributed to his high anxiety and disillusionment with the business's prospects, whilst keeping him from his family.
Aviel's Solution
With the help of his Aviel business coach, Allen briefed solicitors, formalised the dissolution of the ailing partnership and built an individual new business plan based on an emerging communications technology.
Through a half-day workshop, Aviel guided staff to redefine their new structure, align roles and responsibilities with shared goals plus take ownership of strategic new business systems.
Because of Allen's evident confidence in Aviel's pragmatic coaching techniques, he took up Aviel's unique option of a corporate astrology chart, and engaged Aviel to work with Barry, his wayward sales manager.
Client's Result
Allen's resulting Business Alignment Strategy session exposed the key drivers within his new enterprise, and empowered him and his staff with an enlightened understanding of their purpose. Allen's new recognition of his previous underlying partnership issues ensures they will be avoided as he moves forward.
Barry's coaching soon unearthed and helped resolved the extreme financial pressure, the associated stress, and domestic dissatisfaction he was manifesting at work. Aviel personal coaching provided a positive solution to the domestic situation he faced then structured a practical solution to alter his attitude and performance at work.
Allen now says he will create a role for Barry because of his attitude shift and new-found productivity. They are now building a successful new company with regular assistance from their shared Aviel coaching resource. Allen can now take time out with family whilst his revitalised company maintains efficiency. Barry actually bought a star for Allen as an expression of his appreciation.
